    Origin Information

Pequeña Finca translates to small farm, a name that spotlights small scale coffee producers who champion the excellent reputation Huila commands. Bordered by the east and central ranges of the Andes, mostly lying within Magdalena Valley, coffee cultivation covers 155,000 hectares in the Huila department accounting for 18% of Colombia’s production. Farms average 1.5 hectares, annually producing close to 30 bags each. Even at this boutique level, the majority of farms have a wet mill on their property, as they are of a tradition focused on optimising quality from the best farm management and processing techniques, over quantity of production.

Huila fosters a culture that treasures eco-friendly practices, with a department-wide strategy - Plan Huila 2050 - to safeguard the bounties of the natural environment and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Improving sustainability for coffee growing communities with fierce protection of the native forest, water resources and implementing infrastructures for efficient transport and waste management solutions.

Genetic variability and climatic diversity create wonderfully complex coffees that require close attention and refined expertise. Doting throughout the year, Huila producers
hand pick with multiple passes at harvest and control varying fermentation and drying times to produce the sweetest coffees with a delicate, bright profile and good structure. Responding to the season’s maturation rates and environmental conditions takes agrological understanding and relentless hard work, requiring precision and lifelong passion to deliver the peak of quality to their local mill.

Pequeña Finca is a collection of fastidiously crafted lots from Huila small farms prepared to an Excelso grade. Fully washed and sun-dried, with over 95% measuring greater than screen 14.
