Protect your coffee machine and dial in better flavour by knowing exactly what’s in your water. This water test kit is designed for espresso machines which helpi you determine the right filtration or treatment for your setup before you connect your machine.

Why test your water?

Water quality has a huge impact on:

  • Machine health – minimise scale, corrosion, and costly repairs

  • Shot consistency – stable water means more predictable extraction

  • Flavour in the cup – balance sweetness, clarity, and acidity

This kit lets you quickly check the key parameters that matter for espresso machine manufacturers.

Key Features

  • Designed for espresso machines – check your water before it enters your machine

  • Easy to use – simple, step-by-step tests suitable for cafés, roasteries and home baristas

  • Helps you choose filtration – understand whether you need softening, carbon filtration, or more advanced treatment

  • Protects warranty & hardware – keeps you closer to manufacturer water specifications

What This Kit Measures (Recommended Ranges)

The kit allows you to measure and compare your water against commonly recommended ranges for espresso machines:

  • TDS (Total Dissolved Solids): 90 – 150 ppm

  • Total Hardness: 70 – 100 ppm

  • Total Iron (Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺): 0 – 0.02 ppm

  • Free Chlorine (Cl₂): 0 – 0.05 ppm

  • Total Chlorine (Cl₂): 0 – 0.1 ppm

  • pH: 6.5 – 8.0

  • Alkalinity: 40 – 80 ppm

  • Chloride (Cl⁻): 0 – 30 ppm

If your readings fall outside these ranges, it’s a strong indicator that you need to adjust your filtration or treatment to better protect your equipment and improve taste.

How to Use

  1. Draw a cold-water sample

    • Always collect water from a tap dispensing cold water.

    • Do not use water drawn from the group heads or steam boiler.

  2. Use a fresh sample for every test

    • Prepare a new sample for each parameter to ensure accurate results.

  3. Test whenever the water source changes

    • Test any time you move your machine, change premises, or switch water sources.

    • Water quality can vary significantly between suburbs and over time as supply and reservoirs change.

Ideal For

  • Café owners and roasters installing or maintaining espresso machines

  • Home baristas wanting to protect premium equipment

  • Technicians and installers who need a quick, reliable water check before commissioning a machine

Regular water testing is one of the simplest ways to extend the life of your coffee machine and get more consistent, delicious espresso every day.

Coffee FAQ

Why is the roast date printed on the back of the bag?

We print the roast date on every bag so you know exactly when your coffee was roasted. Freshness is key to great flavor—our beans are usually at their best between 7–30 days after roasting. This gives the coffee time to “rest” and allows the flavors to fully develop.

How long will my coffee stay fresh?

Once opened, we recommend consuming your beans within 4–6 weeks. To keep them at their best, store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and always reseal the bag tightly or place them in an airtight container.

Do you use a “best before” date?

Instead of a “best before” date, we focus on the roast date. Coffee doesn’t “go bad” like milk, but it will gradually lose flavor and aroma over time. Knowing the roast date lets you decide how fresh you want your brew.

How should I store my coffee?
  • Keep it in the original resealable bag or an airtight container.
  • Store in a cool, dark place—like a pantry, not the fridge.
  • Avoid moisture, heat, and strong odors, as coffee easily absorbs them.
Do you offer subscriptions?

Yes! You can subscribe to have fresh coffee delivered to your door on a schedule that suits you. Subscriptions mean you’ll never run out of your favorite beans.

Can I trace where my coffee comes from?

Absolutely. We source our beans directly from farmers and cooperatives whenever possible. Each bag lists the origin, variety, and processing method so you know exactly where your coffee comes from.
